september 25, 2005: here is the first ever moon tune posting to the
public. bear in mind the experimental nature of the work... and by
all means, let me know what you think. the track was recorded in
may of this year by max floatation (long time friend, jam buddy,
and a founding father of the baked tunes/moon tunes concept) and
myself. the working title is Hey Johnny... as with all moon tunes,
this was recorded in one take, so be gentle on the critique.
moon tunes
october 10, 2005: one more moon tune for you here. this one was
recorded back in april of 2005 by moon tunes regular Max Floatation
and myself. starts off a little obscure, as many do, then
transitions into a solid set of beats. it was fun making it... have
fun listening.

october 29, 2005: long standing moon tunes recording artist max
floatation is moving to victoria, bc for an undetermined period of
time, which of course means that he will not be performing at
jonestown studios nearly as often. as a result, we arranged a
special final jam session.
we got together and recorded three
monster tracks, and i've posted them here for your review.
remember: these tracks are experimental in nature, so be patient...
give them time. each of them has something interesting, and each of
them builds into a memorable sonic experience. the rough spots are
a necessary part of achieving those brief moments where true
harmony is achieved... let me know what you think.

jonestown studios was paid a special visit by johnny and andrew,
who along with myself laid down a few nice moon tune jams.
armed with some cool
toys, we put together a
few really enjoyable
sounds. ambient fans,
take a listen to one of
the tracks we recorded
(just click the button
below).

i'm delighted to announce that max floatation once again broke free
from the bonds of victoria for long enough to sit down for a truly epic
moon tune session. in total, we recorded seven jams, and i've uploaded
four of them for your listening pleasure. i'm sure you'll agree that
there is some worthy content here. once again, each of these tracks is
un-rehearsed, improvised, and played in a single take. we were quite
happy with what we were able to record in just a few hours. it is fair
to say that we were both reminded of how much joy can be extracted from
playing music. i can't imagine a life without it. cheers everyone, and
contact me if you want to put together a jam some time. chez.
here's a few tracks from a great little
session we had at jonestown studios with
our friends max floatation and jason aka
james aka jimmy cracker corn. some great
little jams, so i decided to post them all
here for your kind review.

pay special attention to jam # 5. it's my
fav. takes a minute or two to get going,
but believe me, the wait is worth it.
march 4, 2006:
a great little moon tune session took
place at jonestown studios in august
(first one in a while... summer was quite
busy, what with my wedding and all!). this
latest jam included daryl simpson, rosco,
max, and chez in a spirited and varied
experience. plenty of interesting forages
into the bizarre, with guitars, bass, drum
machines, sunths, harmonicas, more synths,
and vocals.

i've listened to the jams several times
now on my own, and there are some really
good musical moments. also on that night,
we tried something new at the studio. we
had a guest run the video camera during a
jam (jam 9 to be specific). i've taken the
video and sinked it up with the audio from
the jam, and posted the result below. the
video quality has been reduced to a
managable size so that it is more easily
downloadable here, but upon request, a
high res version can be arranged quite
easily.

cheers.

well, the world famous EBOW has been added
to the jonestown studio barrage of
equipment. and wow, what a great gadget.
it sounds awesome. i've uploaded a little
track to serve as a demonstration, and i
can definitely see this sound making it's
way into future chez jonesy and moon tune
tracks.

it's basically a little magnet that
activates your guitar strings, and gives a
fantastic sound that emulates an accoustic
string instrument. have a listen to the
little diddy that i've recorced and see
what you think. i highly recommend you
going out and picking one up.

dug up a cool old moon tune jam that max
and i recorded back in 2002. i've recently
added a new mastering software package to
the studio (wavelab) which is really
handy. i used it to 're-master' this track
in particular while learning the
subtleties of the tool. the result is a
more crisp and clean track that has far
superior sound quality than the original.
have a listen and let us know what you
think. oh yeah... check out this old pic
of max from this exact session. those were
the days.

here's a collection of jams from a session max and i enjoyed. i feel like
i say this every time, but we really had a great time recording these
tracks. there's something very rewarding about being able to put together
an improvised soundscape that is not only listenable, but actually quite
good in both quality and content (if we may say so ourselves.... music,
as we all know, is highly subjective, and the audience ever fical. but i
digress). each of these were done, as were all moon tunes, in one take.

have a listen to these marvelous jams and let us know if you like?

chez.
max floatation made the trek to vancouver this weekend with the express
purpose of gracing jonestown studios with his presence. the jam was the
first with the new multi-track fire wire mixer that we've tried, and we
are happy to report that everything worked beautifully (from the
technical point of view, at least). the jams were, as always, full of
good variety and fun. there was some nice e-bowing that made it's way in
as well. i've included a weird conversation between two german sounding
artists - not sure what the hell they were talking about, but it's worth
a laugh, i think.

keep playing music.

March 17, 2007:
fresh off having his mouth fitted with new braces, max floatation joined
the studio for a long overdue innaugural jam at the new jonestown studios
location. we were joined by daryl and mike jackson, and recorded a few
hours of material that i'm please to share a sample of here. you'll hear
lot's of variety from track to track, which is still one of my favorite
things about the moon tunes environment.

i hope that you enjoy listening.

September 29, 2007:
this is a rare occaision that we
recorded a moon tune session outside
of jonestown. the gracious host of
this fun afternoon was daryl, moon
tune regular and music gear guru.
live drum kit, synths, guitars, and
bass round out these two soundscapes.
have a listen!

i can't believe that it's been nearly a year since our last moon tunes
jam. time really flies. we had a fantastic session to make up for it.
d-rock, max floatation and yours truly had a multi hour session loaded
with fun sounds, childish ramblings, deep ambient meanderings, and a heap
of digital blippy blops. harmonicas and mandolins and ebows, oh my.

February 06, 2010:
once again, max floatation made the treck from Victoria to Jonestown
studios to participate in a free style experimentation of music making.

as usual, we put together a bunch on non-sensical noises, and once again,
we both had a great time and produced some memories.

here's one of the tracks we like from the session.

chez
November 23, 2009:
another session with max and chez. here's the only reasonable jam from
this night... sometimes you have to work for it a little harder than
usual. always fun. another 'missing track' session.
